The play reading group is very popular with 29 members on the list. Luckily not everyone can come to every meeting, and we have had about 13 – 14 people so far.
Our first play was an hour long but the second only 20 minutes so it is a bit ‘pot luck’ at the moment.
No acting skills are needed but some more men and people who could do accents would be nice!
We have an enthusiastic group of Play Readers and also members who enjoy coming to listen and (thankfully) adding their applause at the end of a session.
We have recently done several theatre farces, all well and good, except our enthusiastic actors have had to hold their collective breath whilst an outbreak of corpsing (uncontrolled laughter) ensues.
The last play was "1976", a BBC drama about Angela Morley (a transwoman - formerly known as Wally Stott) who was an important member of the British music scene. The story relates to a crisis in finishing off the music for the film "Watership Down" and how success was achieved. Definitely not a farce, but a play that allowed the group an opportunity to test themselves - which they did brilliantly.
Certainly we would welcome new additions to our friendly group and have an opportunity to act, with the comfort of a script at hand. Come on, give it a try
