Happy walkers on a sunny day in the Henlow area in June 2026

The group meets on various days during the second week of the month. Walks are a not too strenuous 4-5 miles (2-2½ hours) through local countryside of North Herts and South Beds followed by an optional pub lunch. The walks are all surveyed by the walk leader in advance to confirm that there are no hazards. Please be aware that anyone taking part in U3A activities does so at their own risk.

From Hitchin to Pirton and back again. This walk, originally planned for 13 August and cancelled due to the expected heat, will now take place on Friday, 11 September.  The walk, which is just under 6 miles, will be split into two sections with lunch at the Motte and Bailey pub around 12 noon in between. You are very welcome to do just one section if you like.

We will meet at the top of Red Hill road at the junction with Moss Way. SG5 2NY. There is plenty of on street parking; setting off at 10:30 as usual. If you would rather take the bus back the 89 leaves opposite the pub at 13:53. If taking the bus get off opposite "The Angels" on the Bedford Road and walk up Red Hill Road back to your car.

If you would prefer to have lunch and do the afternoon section, the 89 bus leaves Bancroft at 11:55 getting to the Pub at 12:13.

If you would like to join the group and/or this walk, please contact Carolyn, the Group Coordinator, via the link above.
